Sony BDP-S5000ES

Blu Ray Review

Sony BDP-S5000ES, Sony Blu Ray Player

Sony’s ES (Elevated Standard) range of audio and video components has for several years set the standards for top quality home cinema and stereo performance. The new Sony BDP-S5000ES is no exception and has been specifically designed for those who demand the true home cinema experience. It contains a wide range of specifications and will do virtually everything you could possibly imagine or want a Blu-ray player to do.

The BDP-S5000ES has a number of features that you will probably not find on the more standard players available. It has 14-bit video processing along with HD Reality Enhancer and Super Bit Mapping which aims to improve the standard definition and high-definition of the picture quality. There is also the added bonus of Precision Cinema HD Upscale technology.

Perhaps what makes the Sony BDP-S5000ES the player to have is the quality of the hardware and components that have gone into the machine. It really has been designed to give the greatest performance and best possible audio-visual experience. The BDP-S5000ES also has 7.1-channel analogue audio output and Linear PCM and HD audio decoding with bitstream output. It has the capability of managing all formats up to Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

This player also contains an HD Reality Enhancer which will continually analyse the image from the disc. This feature helps to produce a better quality image and sharpens the edges of the picture and reduces the effect of grain. It will also help to increase the colour depth to the equivalent of 14 bits. Super Bit Mapping will ensure smoother colour tones.

The Sony BDP-S5000ES also features the XrossMediaBar menu system and offers full Bravia sync capabilities allowing control over HDMI.

To make the most of the extra features that are becoming increasingly more popular on Blu-ray Disc releases, the Sony BDP-S5000ES has been made compatible with BD-Live and BonusView. This feature allows you to gain access to online services and additional content such as special features. These can then be downloaded from the internet and saved onto the 1GB USB flash storage device that is included in the player.
